Your two first assignments!

Part 1:

Your first assignment for Teacher Training is to start getting books for your required reading! Each book is listed below, and the button which will take you to an Amazon link to purchase. You are welcome to buy these books from anywhere, but we included a link for ease. (also these are all available used as well, which is a great way to buy books).

YOGA - Linda Sparrowe (published by Yoga Journal)

Our posture analysis will be supported by this book, which includes a pretty complete photo library of almost every modern yoga pose and their variations. Though not particularly diverse in representations of different abilities and bodies, for a baseline of the physical shapes we create, this book will help significantly.

It also has a history of yoga that we will be exploring together.

Inside the Yoga Sutras: A Comprehensive Sourcebook for the Study & Practice of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras

This book is a translation and commentary of the seminal book of modern postural yoga, The Yoga Sutras. We will be using this book extensively in discovering and understanding the philosophical and spiritual origins of yoga.

*PLEASE READ: Preface, “Put this book down unless”, The Cosmic Drama, and the first page of Pada One, and first first 4 sutras up to the end of 1.4 on page 23. It should take you less than 2 hours.

We also recommend, if you want to go above and beyond, getting (perhaps further down the road, Edwin Bryant’s translation as well. We will be leveraging both, but this is the main one to get.

The Key Muscles of Yoga: Scientific Keys, Volume I

This is the reference book we will be using for our Anatomy Units.

Your next assignment is for our first meeting together!

We’d like you to bring one thing… ANYTHING… to teach to the rest of the group in under 2 minutes. You can teach: how to solve a rubix cube, about how to propagate a succulent, about the life of your favorite author… but it has to be in under two minutes, and enough that we can really get some golden nuggets of knowledge.
